COVID-19 VACCINATION: SEPTEMBER 2023 UPDATE

The NHS has a programme for seasonal COVID-19 and influenza vaccination. This will be offered to all adults over 65 years of age. For the COVID-19 vaccine some people aged 6 months-64 years will be offered the vaccine if they have specific health problems (if they are in specified clinical risk groups).

- If an adult (16 years – 64 years) with an inherited metabolic disease (IMD) has particular clinical issues that meet the specific criteria (for example chronic kidney impairment), they will be offered the vaccine. In this situation you will be contacted by the vaccination service.

- Although children are generally at low risk from COVID-19, infants and children who have certain underlying medical conditions are more likely to develop a more severe illness from a COVID infection and require an admission to paediatric intensive care. If a child (6months - 15 years) with an IMD is in a clinical risk group more likely to develop serious illness they will be offered the vaccine. In this situation you will be contacted by the vaccination service.

If you have any specific queries please discuss with your General Practitioner or Metabolic specialist service.
