The awarding of grants is dependent upon available funds and the number of grants awarded may vary from year to year. The maximum value of any individual grant is £500. Grants will be advertised within the BIMDG bulletin.
Priority: In the event that eligible applications exceed the number of grants available the order of priority for receiving grants is as follows.
- Application for travel costs to attend the Annual Conference or BIMDG sponsored workshop.
- Application by a member who has not received an award within the last 3 years.
- Application for a short visit to another department for laboratory or clinical training or collaboration.
- Application to attend the SSIEM/ICIEM.
- Application to attend any other conference within (or closely allied to) the field of inborn errors of metabolism. The inclusion of allied conferences is at the discretion of the Committee.
- Any other educational activity related to Inherited Metabolic Disease.
If it is necessary to distinguish between applicants within a particular category, priority will be given to those who are to present oral or poster presentations at a meeting, those who have particular financial difficulties and those whom at the discretion of the Committee have shown above-average commitment to the furtherance of the management and study of metabolic disease.
Application: Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply in advance of the intended conference/meeting. However, when this is not possible due to timing of the meeting, retrospective applications will be admitted at the discretion of the Committee. Applications should be made and submitted to the Secretary: Donna Fullerton
BIMDG - SUMMER STUDENTSHIPS 2024
The British Inherited Metabolic Disease Group (BIMDG) will consider supporting students to gain valuable experience in the area of inherited metabolic disease.
A stipend of 200 pounds a week, for a maximum of eight weeks, is available. It is anticipated that a maximum of two studentships will be awarded. The projects must be innovative and provide some useful information to the wider IMD community, or the implementation of novel techniques.
Applications are invited to ALL DISCIPLINES (laboratory, nurses, dietitians, clinicians etc.) relevant to patients with inherited metabolic conditions.
Students will need to identify a supervisor or vice versa.
Potential supervisors should apply by submitting a one page (A4) project proposal that includes background, aims and approach to be employed. A statement of how the project will benefit patients with inherited metabolic disorders should be included.
A CV of the prospective student must accompany the proposal.
Please e-mail your application by 10th May 2024, to Donna Fullerton (BIMDG Secretary)
